Feeling anxious, tired or indecisive or just low on energy?

In our wonderful fast-paced world, stress levels sometimes can go way beyond what is manageable. Negative stress over a longer period can lead to anxiety, insomnia, burn-out and depression amongst others. Enter Reiki, a relaxing treatment to counteract stress.

Today over 40% of all sick leaves are stress or fatigue related. And the link between mind and body plays an important part of positive emotional wellbeing. This is reflected in a rapidly growing interest in alternative medicine, for example Reiki. Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy healing method, proven to be highly effective when it comes to reducing stress, anxiety, lowering blood pressure, improving sleep, reducing pain and much more. Reiki is mostly seen as a complementary therapy, and is not intended to replace standard medical care.

Stress can affect the immune system

Stress triggers the adrenals releasing hormones of adrenaline and cortisol, and our body lands into “fight or flight” mode. This mode is great if we need to be alert for a short amount of time, or if we are under threat. But, we need to learn how to switch it off. To stay in high adrenaline and cortisol mode will affect us poorly, and you can see symptoms of insomnia, tense muscles. This, over time, depletes the nervous system. Through that, our immune system and digestion and the ability to slow down, relax and restore. When we are in fight or flight mode, the digestion and immune systems shut down, as they are not as vital in an emergency. When we stay here - our body doesn’t differentiate between real danger or having a stressful day.

Reiki is used with modern medicine

Reiki has evidence from modern research to be an effective treatment in reducing stress and depression, anxiety and physical and mental pain or tensions. Reiki can improve sleep and insomnia, reduce symptoms of illness, help with a personal transformation and be used as a tool in your journey within. Physically, a treatment increases the oxytocin in the body - what is usually called the body's own happiness hormone.

It is an acknowledged healing form, and Reiki has been used in operation rooms from the mid 90´s in some countries, and is often an appreciated complement to severe long-term illness. Some sport teams have Reiki practitioners to help athletes to recover more quickly from surgery or injuries and to enhance performance. During the tragedy of 9/11 the effort that followed, a reiki station was set up to help firefighters and first responders at ground zero.

Reiki can be used to relax and rejuvenate the body, calm and restore out nervous systems

The Origin of Reiki

Reiki is an ancient energy healing practice with roots from Japan and has been practiced for over 2500 years. Re-originated by Dr Mikao Usui in the 1920’s. Reiki comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things. The energy nourishes our immune system and every cell in our body vibrates and emits a frequency that emanates out into the aura creating an energy field that surrounds the physical body. When our immune system is healthy, we feel strong, vibrant and alive and emanate positive energy. When we are stressed or unhappy our immune system becomes depleted and we succumb more easily to illness and disease. Stress and tension affect every cell in the body, so our health is reflected in our energy field.

How does a work to receive a Reiki Treatment?

Reiki healing is a gentle, calming full body treatment that is received fully clothed and can be practiced by attuned Reiki Practitioners and given to anyone, or anything.

The healing energy is a fine vibrational frequency channeled through the hands as they are placed on the body or on the aura, positively affecting the physical and subtle energy fields of the body. The experience of Reiki varies. Some might receive insights through images, through colors, noticeable temperature or energy shifts.

Reiki allows the mind to slow down and relax, it balances the nervous systems

Reiki allows the mind to slow down and relax, shifting from the dominance of the sympathetic nervous system, to the relaxed and more replenishing parasympathetic nervous system. Initiating the innate healing of our immune system, helping to alleviate pain, reduce tension in muscles and help release mental and emotional stress. It raises our energy and frequency, can provide a sense of peace and calm that can help to restore a positive mindset.

It is of utmost importance to replenish our energy levels to improve our wellbeing.

Reiki – a relaxing treatment to counteract stress

Reiki is for sure one of the most relaxing treatments you can experience, and you do not have to do a thing. It is a gentle, light-touch healing modality that will help soothe your nervous system, stimulate deep relaxation and your body’s own natural ability to heal and recover. It can help in reducing stress, personal transformation, as a complement during illness and as a tool to enhance your everyday well-being.

Reiki healing aims to help the flow of energy and remove energetic blockages

We are built up by energy, and when optimal, the energy within us should flow easily and freely. Sometimes this is not the case and we can feel stuck or stressed. Reiki healing aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks, in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure, and with the use of a variety of light hand placements and techniques Reiki activates the body’s own healing process. Reiki soothes the nervous system, helps balancing your own energy and stimulates a very deep relaxation

It may sound like an abstract concept, hard to grasp or even understand. But all human beings possess an innate healing mechanism, our immune system, that manages to repair and renew cells and to efficiently eliminate “foreign bodies” as part of our defense system. Relaxation and rest are vital elements that help this system to work effectively.
